Glycol is an important product used to protect hydronic heating systems from freezing in cold weather climates.  Glycol, also known as antifreeze, will lower the freezing point of the water in your hydronic heating system.

ABR Wholesaler’s stocks an Aluminum Safe glycol, 18-491, in 5 gallon buckets.  The glycol, made by Utility Chemical, is safe for all styles of heat exchangers including cast iron, stainless steel, and aluminum.  The aluminum safe glycol is diluted in the boiler system to a concentration of 2:1, or a 50% glycol mixture.  This concentration will protect your hydronic heating system to -100 F.  It is recommended to test the glycol concentration every year.  Testing the glycol is done by using glycol test strips, 18-460.  The strips measure the pH of the concentration to ensure that the concentration does not need to be adjusted

If your hydronic heating system is left off, during a harsh winter, the system will freeze up causing catastrophic water damage to your customer's home or business.  Using glycol can help mitigate the risks associated with system failures.

Using glycol in your hydronic heating system can save your customers thousands of dollars in costly repairs.  If used properly, your customer's hydronic heating system will be protected from the harsh winters.
